About OneGoal

 

In 1970, 6% of students from low-income communities completed college. Today, that number is a mere 9%. Anchored in this belief, we have one goal: college graduation. Period. At OneGoal, we believe we must move the needle on this most critical challenge facing our nation especially given it is solvable. We believe all students have what it takes to earn a college degree, and should have a real opportunity to fulfill their potential. Our Executive Director – Bay Area will join a national movement changing the trajectory for our country’s most underserved youth during a unique window in time:

  • By 2017, OneGoal will serve more than 9,300 students (“OneGoal Fellows”) in 180 schools in six states across our country.
  • OneGoal’s teacher-led, in-school, three-year college access and success model is reversing the odds. While nationwide, only 9% of kids in low-income communities graduate from college, 82% of OneGoal Fellows enroll in college and 78% are persisting or have graduated from college.
  • Since 2013, OneGoal has grown in staff size by an average of 50% and with over 100 staff members, is embarking on “Phase III” of our growth stage, anticipating additional growth to new regions.

The Person

 

As our founding Executive Director in the Bay Area, you get to build a vision, a strategy and a team that together ensures more than 2,000 students become OneGoal Fellows and that at least 60% graduate from a post-secondary institution within five years. Your initial efforts will be focused on the East Bay (Oakland and Richmond) and from there, you’ll monitor demographic shifts across the ensure our program meets students where they most need it. Looking back on your time as the Bay’s founding Executive Director, you will be most proud your footprint included:

  • Setting an extraordinarily bold vision that demonstrated the vast majority of Bay Area students are college bound
    • Result: You create a compelling vision, plan and team culture for the region during your first 12 months that lays a strong foundation for OneGoal to become a force of nature in the Bay for providing low income students with more life options.
  • Recruiting and developing an incredible team of 2-3 during your first year and 14 by 2022
    • Result: Your regional team is fully accountable and fired up to deliver radical change for ALL students and you know you’re on track because your performance appraisals and 360’s show you are getting it done.
  • Inspiring a group of school partners to join your OneGoal team in the Bay Area
    • Result: You officially launch the OneGoal program in 9 high schools by fall 2018 which squarely puts you on a path to serving more than 2,000 students within 5 years.
  • Thoughtfully building community champions including an inaugural Board of Directors and funders to launch OneGoal strongly across the region
    • Result: The 4-5 Board members you recruit by summer 2018 become your biggest champions, lead you to additional funders and you easily raise $1.5M by year 3 to support OneGoal’s impact across the Bay.
